Some of you might know my story of how I came into sound healing, discovering the power of sounds to find my calm within the chaos of Motherhood. To summarise, I regain my own sense of sanity when I first discovered my first sound bowl at a parent and child singing bowl workshop to help my child find focus. Who knew that getting my first singing bowl would led to a multi-instrument discovery into the world of sound healing. When I look back at my journey venturing into sound healing, I am sometimes shockingly amazed at the amount of instruments I have collected over the years, and yet every single of one them are still as precious as the day I found them, because every single sound from them brought me deeper into this rabbit hole of finding my own sense of self-identity, my reconnection to sounds, music, soul, and spiritual awakening into who I am, which in turn makes me dive deeper into learning more about sounds, for the more I learn, the more I discover that in these sounds, I have a glimpse and sense of wonderment of the Universe, a connection to something bigger than myself. I often find solace in sounds and music when times are challenging, especially as a full time mother. I cannot even imagine what life would be like for me, had I not found sound healing in the first place. I admit that I might even turn alcoholic just to survive the demands of parenting as an escape. Sound is now my escape and my living sanctuary to ground and find myself back when life gets challenging.
Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher’s work established a fundamental link between mathematics and music, suggesting a universal mathematical order that extended to the cosmos in his theory of the ‘music of the spheres’. When we listen to music, we are instantly transported to a different emotional landscape. When we listen to pure sounds, it takes us out of our bodies and within, into our inner landscape, and in the silence between the sounds, we develop the ability to listen to what is arising within us, the answers that we seek. The very sound that we create using our own voice lies the medicine that we can tap into, to heal ourselves of what needs to be healed. The very concept of healing comes from within, can be easily assisted by sounds that we listen and create ourselves. In a world that is only rushing to a certain timeline, when time becomes a luxurious commodity that cannot be bought, we are forced to either follow along blindly, or take charge and decide to slow down time for ourselves. When we incorporate a practice of listening to sounds, music or even picking up an instrument to play not for the sake of entertaining others, but playing to bring us deeper within ourselves, we are not only rising a revolution against the rushing world, but also creating a sanctuary for ourselves within the sounds or music that we create. There is beauty in trusting and leaning into our own sound or music creations, when intention and meaning is put into it. We are not creating to gain recognition from the world to raise our ego, but creating to tap into our inner muse to connect with the Divine within us.
This is an act that everyone is born with the right to create, before someone comes along and tell us that we are too noisy, our voice is too croaky, or the likes, that the world just wants to shut down, and put limitations to what constitutes beauty. Because the world does not want us to be in touch with our own divinity. It wants to cut us off from the connection that we have to Source, our birthright to remember who we are. Now is the time. We are awakening, awakening to our own gifts and talents, through what we create, whether it’s sounds, music, art, or poetry. I invite you to awaken to your own frequency that lies within you. Make a sound now. Hum a sound for yourself. Notice where the sound goes. Continue humming for as long as you like, and let the hum resonate throughout your body. You are a living vessel for sounds. You are the frequency for your own healing. You just need to remember to make your sounds and music, regardless of what the world is asking of you, whether its your soul-draining job, family obligations to bring home the dough, the incessant demands from your children, or the society that is telling you to make more money to be ‘successful’. Let those voices fade now, because you are waking up to remember who you are through sounds and music. Make that sound, play that instrument, it is never too late. Make sound making or playing an instrument a part of your daily life. It is not just a hobby. It is not a job. It is your connection to yourself, your highest Divine self, your connection to Source. It is your Sacred Remembrance through sounds, frequency, music and silence.
